Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuit Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2017
The creation of Domaine Henri Gouges began in 1920, but only for the sale of grapes to traders. In 1933, he envisioned a better quality wine in his new domain and thus produced, bottled and sold directly his wines. The Domaine has remained a family property over the years with a succession of Henri to his sons Marcel and Michel, then to the next generation of Pierre and Christian, who recently entrusted to Grégoire and Antoine Gouges. Located in the heart of the "Côte d'Or" in the village of Nuits Saint Georges, they now have an area of 10 hectares of vines and a modern gravity flow winemaking facility where they produce wines of Burgundy, Village and Premier Cru. Respect for the land, the environment and the traditions of the region has been at the heart of their vinification. Care of the soil and vine has resulted in the highest quality fruit while controlling yields for optimal results.
Located on the South slope of the village, our two parcels are assembled during the vinification. The total acreage is 4.5. This Premier Cru heads uphill from about 800 feet above sea level. One finds a great complexity of soil, from the flush rock to the scree coming down from the top. Vines are an average age of about 50 years. This Premier Cru is a powerful and well-structured wine with good ageing potential.
