Near the village of Castellet therefore on the top of the massif, at an average altitude of 170 m, this fairly homogeneous clay-limestone soil is based on Santonian grapes of around 100 million years.
This terroir, where Mourvèdre is fully expressed, gives fruity and powerful tannic wines with between 70 and 80% Mourvèdre depending on the year. Often swept by the mistral, La Tourtine is particularly well exposed, which gives a wine of great aging which still has these aromas of small red fruits and spices, even after 10 to 15 years of aging.
La Tourtine is located on the hill of Castellet, the vine grows here on clay and limestone soils of the Santonian Valdonian type, the traditional terroir par excellence of the Aoc Bandol. In these comfortable clays and at the height of the summer period, it happens that we can pass a hand or even a clenched fist in the crevices caused by the retraction of the drying clays. This may be a little surprising but shows that the vine has a fairly deep rooting and this is one of the characteristics of Tourtine. We are located on the top of a hill, very sunny and very windy and it is probably the combination of all these factors that makes it one of the greatest terroirs of Bandol.
