Domaine Tempier is an exceptional producer of this appellation. An authentic Bandol, obtained on clay-limestone soils.
This cuvée is a blend of 75% Mourvèdre, 15% Grenache Noir, 8% Cinsault and 2% Carignan. Reasoned culture, without herbicides. Manual and traditional harvest in boxes. Vinification: 100% destemmed, indigenous yeasts, 3 weeks maceration, temperature control, 20 months aging in 75 hl casks.
Located in Tourtine in its lower part, this terroir of a very small surface, benefits from special conditions: sheltered from the mistral by the promontory of Castellet, always under the influence of a light breeze which rises along its stepped slopes. on short terraces, it faces south-southwest for maximum sunshine. These exceptional conditions allow Mourvèdre (here at more than 95%) to reach ideal maturity. The low yields make it a rare wine. Full-bodied, very powerful with very tight tannins, this wine is often a shock for those who are lucky enough to taste it: a benchmark.
Backing onto the hill of Castellet, this plot is protected from the too violent effects of the mistral that can be had on Tourtine. At the height of the summer heat, it benefits from the rise of thermal winds which provide favorable ventilation.
This plot is endowed with a rather exceptional qualitative background which is based on old vines which are about fifty years old. These vines were at the time, like a good part of Tourtine, grafted on site by Lucien and François Peyraud.
