Domaine de Fondrèche - Red 2017
This wine sums up the philosophy of the estate, 20 years of work and restructuring of the vineyard. Put the right grape variety on the right terroir, work in an ecological way, create harmony between the soil, the plant and its environment while keeping the objective of producing wines of a typical character specific to this magnificent place.
Terroir The Fondrèche plateau made from old alluvium, it is a very stony soil (rolled pebbles, flint and crystalline) limestone from the surface with a clayey-sandy texture.
Grape variety; 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre for an average age of the vines of around forty years
Vinification & aging; Traditional, vatting from 21 to 28 days with only a few small punching downs to promote slow and gradual extraction. Aging for one year in ovoid vats, barrels and tuns. Bottling in fruit day.
Tasting; A deep color, an intense nose of red fruit, black cherry, blueberry, raspberry, violet and woody spices. A generous, harmonious, round and silky palate. A wine to “bite into”.
The Domaine de Fondrèche is located in Mazan, in the heart of the Côtes du Ventoux appellation. It is managed by Nanou Barthélémy & Sébastien Vincenti, who have a simple objective: to produce "identi-terre" wines. In other words, wines that are as close as possible to their terroir, while enhancing it.
The Domaine de Fondrèche vineyard, covering 38 hectares, is worked according to the principles of organic farming, with the aim of creating harmony between the vine, the soil and its direct environment. It is based on three sites spread over the municipalities of Mazan, Mormoiron and Saint Pierre de Vassols. No chemical weedkiller is used, and recourse to grass coverings between rows is frequent. The amendments are made with 100% natural organic manure.
