SPEYBURN - 10 years - 40%
Speyburn 10 Year Old is a light, sweet single malt, characteristic of Speyside whiskies. It ages in oak barrels, one part in ex-Bourbon barrels and the other in barrels that have contained sherry wine. Sold at an affordable price, it is nonetheless very qualitative and appreciated by connoisseurs: silver medal in 2017 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition and gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
While searching for the perfect spot for his distillery, John Hopkins discovered the Granty Burn – a hidden stream in a secluded valley in Speyside . He knew that the exceptionally pure water of this burn (stream) would produce a remarkable whiskey with a naturally refreshing character. Hopkins trusted his intuition and built the Speyburn Distillery in the valley, using authentic river stones from the bed of the fast-flowing River Spey itself. Located in a steep valley with limited space, the distillery had to be built vertically over three levels with layered lattice drying floors to fit into the cramped space.
Lightly smoky, the 10-year-old Speyburn single malt is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry American oak barrels .
