SULLIVANS COVE - 11 ans - Australian Tawny Cask TD0305 - Artist 10th Anniversary International - 67.3%
The Artist #10 International range consists of a careful selection of whiskies in limited editions and exclusive to La Maison du Whisky. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Artist range, the team has decided to honor distilleries which, in less than twenty years, have become references in their countries: Japan, India, Australia, Wales, Taiwan and France. While this openness to whiskies from around the world is a real innovation in the world of independent bottlers, this collection is also an opportunity to share their vision of the future through the diversity of terroirs. The works of this first Artist International series were created by Éric Robin; introduced to painting at the age of 9, he became known through his large-format three-dimensional paintings. Imagined from gold leaf papers, oxidized, painted, cut and folded, his relief compositions appeal with their play of shadows accentuating contrasts and shades of transparency.
Sullivans Cove Distillery was established in 1994 at its original location at the old brickworks at Sullivans Cove, making it the second oldest whisky distillery in Tasmania. In 2004, the distillery moved to its current location in Cambridge and the current head distiller Patrick Maguire took over distillation and cask selection. In the early days, the reputation of Sullivans Cove was poor to say the least, but in 1999 new ownership vastly improved the quality of the whisky being produced and by 2007, Sullivans Cove started to gain international recognition (in 2014 the French Oak cask HH0525 was named Best Single Malt Whisky in the World by the World Whiskies Awards). The distillery was bought in 2016 by a company run by Adam Sable, the former manager of the Scottish Bladnoch distillery, located in the Lowlands region.
This expression of Sullivans Cove was distilled in 2008, and intoned in a barrel having contained Australian Tawny (type of Port). This Single Cask (#TD0305) is aged for 11 years and has produced 336 bottles.
