Domaine de la Jobeline - Mâcon Verze - 16 ares - Vielles vignes 2018
Domaine de la Jobeline is located in Verzé, a small historic village in the Mâconnais of Burgundy. The Maillet familytakes its roots in the region of Burgundy 400 years ago. The domaine was created in 2014 by Pierre Maillet, initially a member of a wine cooperative, with the will to continue the family legacy started by his grandfather. He owns 11 hectares of vineyards, located between 250 and 380 meters, benefiting from a cool climate. Over the past 12 years, a project of restructuring and replanting has been undertaken. Daily, the land is worked sustainably, in a way to maintain living organisms and the natural occurring ecosystem present in the terroir. The newest rootstock is planted in accordance to the soil’s physico-chemical analysis results, the clones are chosen depending on the land parcel and some old vines from 1957 have been kept. The vineyard manager, Laurent Alexandre, has previously worked amongst the most reputable estates of the region.
The Mâcon-Verzé “16 ares” comes from a small parcel of 16 ares planted with Gamay in 1961, exposed south-east with an elevation of 380 metres. The harvested grapes undergo a cold maceration for over a week, with regular pumping over. The alcoholic fermentation happens and another few-days maceration is carried out before pressing and transferring to barrels. The malolactic fermentation is spontaneous, and the wine is aged for 1 years in oak casks aged 4 to 6 years so the wine doesn’t take wood aromas. Approximately 1,000 bottles have been produced.
Grape variety: 100% Gamay
