LONGUETEAU - Cuvée 125 ans - Carafe - 44,4%
The Longueteau family arrived in Guadeloupe in 1766, but it was not until the end of the 19th century that Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau acquired part of the Marquisate of Sainte-Marie, put up for auction following the crisis of the sugar industry. In 1895, he bought the Habitation Espérance to change the domain from sugar refinery to distillery. Today, François Longueteau manages the House, the only distillery in Guadeloupe whose owner is both the farmer and the master distiller.
His rums come entirely from his own sugar canes. They are harvested and crushed the same day at full maturity. Following a 48-hour fermentation without inputs, the juices are distilled in a Savalle column with 28 trays.
This edition is a 125th anniversary cuvée of the distillery, founded by Henri Longueteau. It is a blend of three white rums from 2008, 2009 and 2010 made from red canes (65%) and blue canes (35%). They were blended in stainless steel vats for 8 months, then aged in 300-litre ex-Cognac barrels.
