Germana - Cachaça Classica - 40%
Germana is an artisanal cachaça brand produced by the Caetano family , in Vista Alegre, Brazil . In Portuguese, the name Germana means "something unmixed, pure and authentic". Caetano chose this name for its cachaça and to honor the life of the famous nun, Sister Irma Germana. She was known to be a healer, helping pilgrims and visitors with infusions made from cachaça and herbs she gathered from the mountainside.
Germana is made from hand-cut sugar cane, grown on the Caetano family farm without chemicals or pesticides . The cane is harvested on their farm, pressed the same day and left to ferment in open tanks for around 24 hours, depending on the ambient temperature. To aid in the natural fermentation process, Germana also adds a measure of roasted corn which is grown and ground locally. After fermentation, the must is distilled in copper pot stills over direct fire using the pressed and dried sugar cane as fuel.
