Domaine Philippe Gilbert is located in Menetou-Salon , in the Loire Valley . The story begins in 1768, when François Gilbert gave up his job as an innkeeper to take over the vines of his father-in-law. In the early 1900s, the estate was designed in its current configuration and built by Philippe Gilbert, grandfather of the current owner. The terroir is located on marl and limestone from the Kimmeridgian of the Paris Basin from the end of the Jurassic. Since 2006, all of the 29 hectares of the property have been managed with certified biodynamic farming methods.
35 Rangs is made from 122 hectares of Pinot Noir divided into 35 rows, planted in the mid-1960s by Paul Gilbert. The maceration of the grapes lasts about twenty days and then the wine is aged for 18 months in barrels and in vats .
