Domaine Thibault Liger Belair - Windmill - Les Vieilles Vignes 2017
The Thibault Liger-Belair estate is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy . Its history is linked to the Establishments C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair, created in 1720 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, which were among the most important breeding and wine trading houses in Burgundy. In 1982, Xavier Liger-Belair sold the trading company and died shortly afterwards. That same year, his son Vincent, supported by his mother, took over the family buildings, restructured the estate and reorganized sharecropping with three winegrowers from the coast so that one of his sons could take over the estate when the day came. All of the estate's vines have been in the family since the 18th century and Thibault Liger-Belair took over the exploitation of the vines given in sharecropping in 2001. His 8-hectare vineyard is conducted in certified organic farming . In 2003, he created the company Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs , a grape buying activity. Between the months of June and July, he harvests the grapes from partner winegrowers himself, then vinifies and ages these wines. In 2008, he bought plots at Moulin-à-Vent , a Cru du Beaujolais , at the Domaine des Pierres Roses.
The Moulin-à-Vent "Les Vieilles Vignes" comes from a blend of 9 plots representing 7 hectares, i.e. half of the total area of the Pierres Roses estate. The vines were planted between 1910 and 1955 and are all located around the Moulin-à-Vent hill. After the manual harvest, 40% of the harvest is kept in whole bunches. Fermentation lasts 3 weeks in open vats with a very gentle extraction. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels .
Grape variety: 100% Gamay
