Domaine Martinelle-Ventoux 2021
Domaine Martinelle is located in Lafare, in the southern Rhône . It was created in 2002 by Corinna Faravel . She began her apprenticeship in Germany, working in various fields before deciding to seriously explore the red wines of the south of France. After a difficult start, losing two vintages, she slowly built up the estate, selling vines and buying new ones. She completed the construction of a cellar dug into a rocky hillside. Today, the vineyard occupies 11.5 hectares on the eastern slope of the imposing limestone cliffs of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The landscape is marked by steep hills and vineyards share the space with olive trees and pine trees with aromatic herbs growing among the rows of vines. The wines are produced in the Ventoux and Beaumes de Venise appellations and the entire estate has been certified organic since 2015.
Ventoux Rouge is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise . Part of the harvest (10%) is kept in whole bunches. The harvest is lightly crushed and transferred to concrete vats for fermentation, which occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The extraction is gentle, with stirring of the lees. The aging lasts 10 months in concrete vats .
Grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise
