Jansz - Premium Rosé
Jansz Tasmania is located in the Pipers River region of Tasmania . Founded in 1986, it specializes in the production of luxury sparkling wines from Tasmania. In a joint venture with Heemskerk, Louis Roederer recognized the similarities of Tasmania's climate to that of Champagne and together they planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. It was this foresight that led to the development of Tasmania's first vintage sparkling wine in 1989 using the traditional Champagne Method ; a tradition that continues today. Now owned by the Australian Hill-Smith family since 1998, the vineyard has been renamed Jansz Tasmania, honoring Abel Janszoon Tasman who first sighted the island in 1642.
The Premium Rosé is a blend of Pinot Noir (92%) and Chardonnay (8%) . The grapes are harvested by hand, then delicately pressed into whole bunches. To maximize blending options and the complexity of the final wine, batches are separated during vinification. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel vats and oak barrels , and the wine has undergone complete malolactic fermentation. After blending and second fermentation in the bottle, the wine was aged for 18 months on the lees .
