Chateau d'Esclans - Whispering Angel 2022
Château d'Esclans is located in La Motte en Provence, on elevated ground near the Gorges de Pennafort, Provence . In 1201, Gérard De Villeneuve, a member of a well-to-do Marseille family, took possession of the château and most of the area of the Vallée d'Esclans, which was eventually sold in batches. Two brothers, Sauveur Louis Ranque and François Alexandre Ranque, were the next to own the castle, then known as Terre d'Esclans. In 1875, they sold the property to Joseph Toussaint Caussemille, who made wooden matches near Marseille. In 1955 the Perraud family owned the property until 1994. At that time it was bought by a Swedish pension fund which produced a small amount of wine and the remaining grapes were sold to neighboring winemakers. Sacha Lichine acquired Château d'Esclans in 2006. Today, there are 140 hectares of vines out of the 427 hectares of the property.
Whispering Angel is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino) . The grapes are sorted and then destemmed before light crushing, which is done at low temperature to avoid oxidation. Both free run wine and press wine are vinified in stainless steel vats. The lees are stirred twice a week.
Grapes: Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino)
