DOMAINE TEMPIER - Tourtine 2021
Domaine Tempier is located in Provence in the Bandol appellation. The estate was created in 1830 but fully revealed itself under the influence of Léonie Tempier in 1885 when she won a Gold medal for her red wine made from Mourvèdre. Domaine Tempier suffered the phylloxera crisis at the beginning of the 20th century, so new grape varieties were planted. In 1941, Bandol became an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée , one of the regulations of which was to produce wines with a minimum of 50% Mourvèdre , and aging for 18 months in barrels for red wines. Today, Domaine Tempier cultivates vines using sustainable agriculture in three communes and produces four wines.
La Tourtine is a single-plot cuvée from the Domaine. It is a blend of Mourvèdre (85%), Grenache and Cinsault coming from the hillsides of the commune of Castellet at an altitude of 170 meters on a clay-limestone terroir. The vinification is traditional with total destemming and native yeasts. Aging is carried out in oak barrels of 25 to 75 hectoliters for 18 to 20 months then is bottled without fining or filtration. It offers an aging potential of 5 to 20 years depending on individual tastes.
