Père Labat - Very Old Rum 5 years - Tatanka - 42%
Père Labat is a brand of rums from the island of Marie-Galante . The history of the distillery dates back to the 18th century when Madame Poisson acquired the estate, then a simple sugar refinery on the island of Marie-Galante. At the beginning of the 20th century, Mr. Rameau, who became the owner of the estate, made improvements and invested in a still and a red copper Creole column. These investments then transformed Domaine Poisson from a sugar factory to a distillery. He also decided to pay tribute to a pioneer in the techniques of distilling fresh cane wine; Father Labat. These quality rums, produced in the tradition of the great agricultural rums by the Poisson distillery, have therefore been named “Père Labat rums”.
This edition is a 5 year old rum aged in Bourbon barrels . The bottle was painted by Tatanka , an artisanal company from Martinique, which produces hand paintings on various supports. Designed since 1996 by a Martinican artist who paints directly on the glass in a naive art style, these bottles represent scenes from life in the distillery . It is a tribute to the work of the men and women who participate in the production of rums. This first collection in collaboration with Père Labat is called “Les Bœufs Tirants” and only 1,000 bottles were released.
