Ben Nevis - Traditional Malt - 46%
Ben Nevis Distillery , established in 1825, is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain , Ben Nevis, which has an elevation of 1,345m above sea level. This imposing mountain provides an impressive backdrop for a showcase traditional Scottish crafts. The main ingredients of a quality whiskey are water, barley and yeast, with a little peat smoke.
Downstream of Ben Nevis there are two small lochans (Coire Leis and Coire na'Ciste) providing a constant and unceasing source of pure, clean water . Barley is clean and plump , fully rounded and quite dry, containing exactly the right amount of protein . Yeast has the texture of a dough or “putty” and is essential to the fermentation process. Peat comes into whiskey through water passing through peat bogs on its way down the mountain and through the smell of the fire lit during the manufacturing process. Since 1989, the Ben Nevis distillery has belonged to Nikka Whiskey Distilling based in Tokyo.
Ben Nevis Traditional Malt is an edition created to celebrate 185 years of the distillery.
