BOTRAN - Aged rum - 15 years old - 40%
Botran rums come from Guatemala, in the region of Retalhuleu (located in the south, on volcanic soils), one of the only 2 AOC in rum in the world with Martinique. It is distinguished by an aging process at high altitude, which has the effect of reducing the share of angels. Aging takes place according to the famous “Sistema Solera” process.
Botran rums are made using the traditional Guatemalan technique of making virgin sugar cane honey by heating the fresh juices to evaporate the water. The fermentations are made by yeasts extracted from pineapple then the rum is distilled in column stills. Following this, the rums are moved to the cellars at an altitude of 2,300m in the center of the country where the climate is cooler and allows slower aging. This refining is done according to a method inspired by the ancestral solera system in ex-American Bourbon casks (200L and 225L re-toasted), Oloroso sherry casks (500-600L) and Port casks (250L) .
This 15-year-old rum is therefore a rum signed Botran . It is a blend of rums that have undergone aging in different types of casks such as Bourbon casks, Port casks, Sherry casks. The age of the rums used in the composition of Botran rum 15 years, is at least 5 years and up to 15 years. They were all aged in Solera in the Botran cellars.
