BEN NEVIS - 22 ans - Millésime 1996 - Single Cask n°1789 - 54,10%
Ben Nevis Distillery, established in 1825, is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is nestled at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, which has a summit elevation of 1,345 m above sea level. This imposing mountain provides an impressive background to a traditional Scottish craft.
The principal ingredients to make a good whisky are water, barley and yeast, with a measure of peat smoke or “reek”.
On Ben Nevis, there are two small lochans (Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste) offering a constant and consistent source of pure, clean water. The barley is clean and plump, fully rounded and quite dry, containing exactly the right amount of protein. The yeast has the texture of dough or putty and is vital to the process of fermentation. The peat comes to the whisky through the water passing over peat bogs on its way down the mountain, and from the “reek” from the fire lit during the manufacturing process.
Nowadays and since 1989, Ben Nevis Distillery is owned by Nikka Whisky Distilling of Tokyo.
This limited edition of 580 bottles was bottled by Elixir Distillers, an independent UK bottler, for the "Single Malts of Scotland" range.
Ben Nevis 22 years is a single malt distilled in 1996, from a single cask (No. 1789) and bottled at cask strength.
