Domaine OSTERTAG - Fronholz - Riesling 2018
Domaine Ostertag is an Alsatian wine estate that covers 15 hectares. The family-owned domain, now managed by André Ostertag, was created in 1966 and was one of the first to introduce biodynamic farming (in 1998) as well as the aging of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc in oak barrels.
Domaine Ostertag has five vineyards where they cultivate Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc as well as Muscat, Pinot Noir, Gewuztraminer and Silvaner.
Fronholz is made from Riesling grown on a terroir of quartz and siliceous white sands on the surface, and deep clay and located at the top of the Epfig hill to benefit from the South-West facing exposition. The grapes are hand-harvested and after a slow pressing, the vinification starts with indigenous yeast in stainless steels. The aging lasts 1 year in inox tanks on its lees. The particularity of Fronholz Riesling is a small salinity due to the minerals in the soils.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
