DOMAINE DE TREVALLON - Blanc 2018
Domaine de Trévallon is located in Provence, on the edge of the Alpilles mountain range between Avignon and Arles. The first vines were planted in 1973 by founder Eloi Dürrbach, and the estate remains family-owned. The first wines were made in 1976. Nowadays, the vineyard is planted with red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (15 hectares), and a small 2 hectares of white varieties.
Winemaking methods are natural and low-interventionist, with no de-stemming, whole-bunch fermentation and natural yeasts, and bottling without filtration. The wines are released as IGP Alpilles, which covers the west of the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
The Trévallon 2018 white is a blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, Chardonnay and Grenache Blanc, planted on a very stony clay-limestone soil. The 2018 vintage was complicated, with a very rainy and mistral-free spring, and the family lost 50% of the harvest due to mildew and no Clairette grapes could be harvested for this vintage. Parcels aging (varietal by varietal) lasts 12 months in Burgundy barrels (20% new), without racking. The wine is settled and then fined with clay but no filtration before bottling. This wine has great aging potential.
Grape varieties: 44% Marsanne, 32% Roussanne, 16% Chardonnay, 8% Grenache Blanc
