Irouléguy - DOMAINE ILARRIA - Blanc 2016
Domaine Ilarria is located in Irouléguy in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. It is a family property that has existed for centuries. Ilarria is an old house in the village whose meaning of the name evokes a Landes site ("Iri": site, and "Larria": Landes in Basque).
The property has 30 hectares, including 10 hectares planted with vines: 2 hectares of Petit Manseng and Courbu in white, and 8 hectares in red (45% Tannat, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon). The vineyards of Domaine Ilarria are mainly planted on limestone hills above the former Priory of the monks, exposed to the South and South East. The soil is draining and the limestone rock stores the heat of the sun to restore it gently. Wanting to keep the tradition of the house and respecting nature, the vines are worked according to the principles of organic farming.
The Blanc 2016 is made from Petit Manseng and Petit Courbu. After a skin maceration at cool temperature of Petit Manseng, the alcoholic fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation also occurs in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in stainless steel vats and old barrels on its lees. This cuvée can be stored 6 to 7 years after bottling.
Grape varieties: 50% Petit Manseng, 50% Petit Courbu
