LA MAUNY - Le Nouveau Monde - 41%
La Mauny Distillery is a distillery located north of Rivière-Pilote in Martinique. The distillery belongs to the company Bourdillon, Bellonnie & Successeurs SAS, a subsidiary of the Chevrillon group. The history of La Mauny rums dates back to 1749 when Ferdinand Poulain, Count of Mauny, from the Breton nobility and advisor to the King of France, landed in Martinique. He married the daughter of a planter who owned an estate located in Rivière-Pilote, in the south of the island: Domaine La Mauny. In 1820, the estate - which then produced only sugar and tafia, the ancestor of rum - developed a new production of Rhum Agricole, made from the pure fresh juice of the plantation's sugar cane. A century later, in 1923, the brothers Théodore and Georges Bellonie acquired the estate. Their complementarity, one in the distillery, the other in the trading, quickly elevated La Mauny to the rank of true pioneer. In 1950, La Mauny became the first rum brand to export its screen-printed and labeled bottles beyond its municipality to the whole of the island and even to mainland France. The rums of Maison La Mauny have held the AOC Rhum De La Martinique appellation since 1996. For the production of its rums, Maison La Mauny uses 5 of the 14 varieties of sugar cane authorised by the AOC. 70% of its supplies are from small neighbouring producers who share the principle of sustainable agriculture. Maison La Mauny is the first brand to have set up an association aiming to promote the island's sugar cane planters.
Le Nouveau Monde is an independent and personal creation of Maison La Mauny’s Cellar Master. It is a blend of 12 cuvées from 4 vintages: 1979, 1988, 1999 and 2004, aged in oak casks.
