Created in 2011, the Artist range unveils every year a collection of exceptional whiskies selected with the highest standards by La Maison du Whisky. These exclusive Single Malts are distinguished by their labels created by artists. In 2020, the Artist series celebrates its 10th anniversary with a selection of Single Malts which brings together renowned distilleries. The graphic interpretation of this new series is designed by Sei Arimori; a graduate of Tokyo University of Fine Arts, he is known for his abstract paintings using the historical technique of egg tempera, often combined with the application of gold or silver leaf.
The Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the Isle of Islay in Scotland. Its history dates back to 1881 when William Robertson co-founded the distillery with William and James Greenlees. In 1883, the whisky production of the distillery was in full swing, then, in 1963, the growing popularity of Scotch whiskies led to the doubling of its stills. The early 1980s saw a decline in the whisky market and the distillery was shut down in 1982, but production quickly resumed two years later. In the years that followed, Bunnahabhain went through several different owners before being acquired by the Distell Group in 2013. The process of making Bunnahabhain whisky begins with malted and lightly peated barley which is combined with “Margadale” spring water heated in the tank to produce the must. Fermentation of the wort then takes place in Oregon pine vats. None of the Single Malt Whiskies produced by Bunnahabhain are chill-filtered. Unlike most Islay whiskies, Bunnahabhain are not heavily peated or smoked.
This Bunnahabhain expression was distilled in 2009, and intoned in a barrel having contained Sherry. This Single Cask (#900086) is aged for over 10 years and has produced 589 bottles.
Lightly Peated (3 ppm)
