TORABHAIG - Legacy Series 2017- Inaugural Release - 46%
Torabhaig Distillery is located in the village of Teangue, on the Sound of Sleat on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It was created by Mossburn Distillers in January 2017, is one of Scotland's newest distilleries and the second on the Isle of Skye. The distillery is established in an old abandoned farm from the 19th century, close to the Allt Gleann stream, which has been renovated for 4 years. The mash tun can brew 1.5 tonnes of malt and 8 Dougas pine fermentation tanks have been installed. Two copper pot stills called Sir Iain and Lady Noble are used to produce a peaty distillate, one of the most phenolic in Scotland. Production is handled by a local team of nine distillers, many of whom are new to the industry. The distillates are aged in oak barrels, mostly in old bourbon barrels and occasionally in sherry hogshead, French virgin oak barrels and other types of barrels.
The Legacy Series 2017 is the distillery's first batch, released in February 2021 and bringing together only 100 barrels. The Single Malt was distilled in 2017 and matured in ex-Bourbon barrels. It reveals an intensely peaty and iodized profile.
