Domaine de Beaurenard-Rasteau 2021
The Domaine de Beaurenard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône . It has been a family estate for 7 generations, now run by brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon . The vineyard covers 32 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape , 25 hectares in Rasteau and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône . They cultivate the 13 grape varieties authorized for the AOC, and the average age of the vines is around 45 years. The whole vineyard is conducted in certified organic farming , and cultivated in certified biodynamics as well. The grapes, harvested manually at optimum maturity, are transported to the winery in small boxes, in order to avoid the crushing of the grapes, which would cause oxidation detrimental to the quality.
Rasteau is a blend of Grenache (80%), Syrah (17%) and Mourvèdre (3%) , grown on a stony clay-limestone soil. The harvest is manual and the sorting of the berries is done in the vineyard. The grapes are co-fermented , the fermentation lasts 18 to 26 days, allowing a delicate extraction. The wine is aged for 12 months in vats and oak tuns .
