Chateau LEOVILLE LAS CASES 2007
Château Léoville Las Cases is located in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle , in the Bordeaux region. It is classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc and Graves Classification of 1855. The estate has a history dating back to the mid-17th century, when it was part of a much larger estate. During the French Revolution the estate was split in two with a small section becoming Château Léoville-Barton. In 1840, the original estate was divided again, creating Château Léoville-Poyferré. Pierre-Jean, Adolphe and Gabriel de Las Cases were the successive heirs of the property until 1900, when Théophile Skawinski took part of the estate and became its manager. Léoville Las Cases has today been run by the same family since the end of the 19th century and is today represented by Jean-Hubert Delon , sole owner of the Château and owner of Château Potensac in the Médoc and Château Nénin in Pomerol.
Léoville Las Cases 2007 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (82%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Merlot (8%) . The 2007 vintage experienced an exceptionally warm and mild month of April, followed by a month of May which brought more cold and humidity. In the summer, the lack of sunshine has forced some growers to prune canopies to allow the grapes most likely to be fully exposed to the available heat. While that undoubtedly helped, ripening was still uneven, until early September finally delivered a hot, dry heat that saved the vintage.
