Champagne Eric Rodez - Les Bouites 2018
Domaine Éric Rodez is located in Ambonnay , in Champagne . Son of a winegrower and mayor of the village of Ambonnay, he cultivates 6 hectares of vines biodynamically . Since 2014, Éric Rodez has been working with his son Mickaël, from the 9th generation. From the start of his training, Éric Rodez tried to understand the practices of different French and European vineyards. Returning to the family estate in 1982, he had the ambition to produce “Great Wines” but, to his great despair, his first vintage as a winegrower (1984) was particularly mediocre. Destabilized, he went to seek advice in other regions and especially in Alsace. This led him to start with a change in floor care practices. He then carried out numerous soil analyzes and adjusted his fertilization program. In the end, his reflection on soil management lasted 10 years. In a second step, he focused more specifically on the protection of the vine, so obviously biodynamics was imposed on a daily basis. In 2009, also regretting that the commitment to sustainable viticulture is not recognized and valued, he made the choice to convert the vineyard. Its commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture is therefore the result of long work and a fierce desire to progress towards viticulture that respects the environment. In 2012, the family farm was the first French farm to be certified "High Environmental Value" (HVE).
