Domaine Vacheron - Les Romans 2022
Domaine Vacheron is located in Sancerre , in the Loire Valley. The family property, created by Maurice Vacheron in the early 1900s, is today operated by cousins from the third generation of winemakers, Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron . Since 2004, the 48-hectare estate has been run using certified biodynamics . This move to biodynamic practices was made to allow the distinct terroirs of Sancerre to be highlighted in the wines; Domaine Vacheron is planted on flinty soils, based on clay-limestone, topped with flint. In the vineyard, everything is harvested by hand and the only fertilizer allowed is compost. In the winery, vats are the main fermentation vessel, while a minimal amount of oak is used on some plots.
Les Romains is a locality cuvée, made exclusively from flinty terroirs. The vines were planted in 1970 and benefit from one of the most sunny terroirs in the appellation. The wine is aged for 12 months in neutral French oak barrels .
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
